Nicholas Demkowicz

This is my Social Studies Project that I made for Mr. Ridolfi's sixth grade class.
In my opinion the three most important parts of Ancient Egypt's geography are:
  • The Nile River
  • The Deserts that surround Ancient Egypt
  • The Mediterranean Sea.

The Nile River

I would first like to talk about the Nile River. The Nile played a huge roll in Ancient History. It supplied the Egyptians with many things such as Food when the Nile flooded, a way to get from one place to another, and supplies for building. Around every September for us, the Nile River would flood and give the Egyptians great land for farming. When the flood stopped they would plant all different kinds of foods so that from then until the next flood they would not starve. Also, the Nile provided great water ways so that the Egyptians could travel to different temples and locations. They could also travel to kush. Lastly, The Nile gave the Egyptians great supplies for building structures. The Nile gave them lots of mud, and the mud was used for mud brick. Then the mud brick was put together to make a house or temple. They also found limestone and sandstone on the side of the Nile.

Nile River Video

This shows a video of the Nile River flooding.
It also shows a kid fishing as the water level goes up.

Deserts that surround Egypt

Next I would like to talk about the deserts that surround Ancient Egypt. The names of the desert are Nubian Desert, Arabian Desert, Libyan Desert, and the Negev Desert. These also played somewhat important roles in ancient history. The main reason why they were important was because they provided lots of protection. No one wanted to cross a blazing hot desert to attack a land or empire. If you ran out of food or drink crossing a desert most likely you are going to die it. The deserts also looked pretty cool but that is besides the point. The deserts could of also helped a leader or pharaoh make sure no one escaped his/her land.

The Libyan Desert

This is a picture of the beautiful Libyan Desert that no one dare to cross.

Mediterranean Sea

Lastly, I want talk about the Mediterranean Sea. Or also know as Nostrum to the Romans. It was called Nostrum by the Romans because Nostrum means our land and the Romans basically owned it. The Mediterranean Sea was a major waterway used to get from one place to another. It allowed trade and other things. Back then trade was a very important thing that almost everyone did. Trading back then was like our modern day shopping. Instead they paid the people in items instead of dollar bills. They could also give the people gold because it was very common. You could also take baths in the sea but it wasn't very common because it is a salt water body of water.

Questions

Lastly I have a few questions to ask you before I end this article

1. What are the names of the four desserts that surround Ancient Egypt?
2. What are the three main things that the Nile is good for?
3. What were the Mediterranean water ways mostly used for?
